OVERALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSE

Jesse Raymond, Jr., RB, Raritan
Raymond exploded for a career-high 242 yards and two touchdowns in a key 21-7 win over St. John Vianney in the National Division. He gained 154 of those yards after halftime, including a 64-yard touchdown run that helped the Rockets pull away and avenge a loss to the Lancers from last year. Raymond also had some big hits in the secondary on defense. It marked Raritan’s fourth straight win, and helped the Rockets improve to 2-0 and tie their win total from last season. Raymond now has 394 yards rushing and five touchdowns in two games after rushing for 463 yards and four touchdowns all of last season. The Rockets’ offense has already put up 70 points in two games after scoring 75 all of last year.

DEFENSE
McArthur Underwood, So., DB, Matawan

Underwood made a season’s worth of big plays in one game with two fumble recoveries, one of which he returned 20 yards for a touchdown, and two interceptions, one of which he returned 28 yards for a touchdown, in a 55-7 win over Red Bank. Underwood also caught a 14-yard touchdown pass on offense and had a kickoff return for a touchdown that was called back. In his first year as a starter, he has three interceptions in two games for the Huskies.

SPECIAL TEAMS
John Otchy, Sr., P, Manasquan

In a 3-0 win over Point Boro in a big National Division game in which field position was huge, Otchy boomed several 40-yard-plus punts, including one out of his own end zone late in the game that sailed 45 yards. His ability to force Point Boro to have to sustain long drives and to get the Warriors out of trouble deep in their own end combined with a great defensive effort to help give Manasquan the win. He was given the game ball by head coach Pete Cahill in the postgame speech.

Honorable mention
Brick’s special teams unit

Junior John Applegate‘s 70-yard punt return for a touchdown proved to be pivotal in an 18-13 win over Colts Neck. Chris Monroe and Chris Palazzo also blocked a field goal attempt for the Green Dragons’ special teams.

Middletown North’s special teams unit
Senior Uly Gibson returned a punt 73 yards to set up a touchdown, and senior Scott Zabe blocked a punt that was recovered by Dave Switay at Toms River South’s 16-yard line to set up another score in a 21-7 win for the Lions.

Dan Cintron, Sr., PR, Barnegat
For the second week in a row, Cintron took a punt to the house, as he brought one back 68 yards for a touchdown in a 32-7 win over Holmdel that put the Bengals at 2-0 for the first time in their three-year varsity history.
